Medical Academy
Program Description
In partnership with Covenant HealthCare, high school juniors who successfully completed Medical Careers or Nursing Occupations and are interested in advancing their career in the medical profession during their senior year will have the opportunity to take their health care training to the next level. Students will study their chosen healthcare path. Through immersive work-based learning experiences onsite at Covenant HealthCare, as well as other area health facilities, students will learn a variety of skills within the workplace from industry mentors. Individualized instruction is provided by medical professionals in specific fields such as pharmacology, emergency medicine, physical therapy, radiography, clinical laboratory, dental, respiratory therapy, optometry, surgery, health information services, general practitioner, and more! Students in this program will also participate in HOSA, a national student organization for students pursuing careers in healthcare. College credit may be earned at Delta College, Ferris State University, and Davenport University

Special Program Features
This class is ONLY for second-year students who attended SCC as a junior in a health-related field and are referred by their instructor.
Students complete on-site internships at local hospitals and healthcare facilities for approximately 150 hours of class time during which they participate in and observe medical procedures.
Students may participate in HOSA (Health Occupations Students of America) a national organization, that provides opportunities to develop teamwork, personal leadership, and career sMs valued by healthcare providers.
Students participate in Senior Projects and community service projects
