DAR Award

Saginaw Arts & Sciences Academy Senior Miriam Haddad was honored on Friday, February 14, 2025, by the Anne Frisby Fitzhugh-Saginaw Chapter, National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (N.S.D.A.R.) as their chapter DAR Good Citizen. Miriam was selected from among 20 students who participated in this year’s program sponsored by the chapter. In addition to being selected as the Chapter winner she advanced and has become one of five state finalists who were selected from 42 participating Chapters. Miriam will be honored in April during the DAR of Michigan State Awards Day where she will learn if she advances to the division level.

The National Society Daughters of the American Revolution is a lineage-based membership service organization for women who are directly descended from a patriot of the American Revolutionary War. A non-profit group, the organization promotes education, patriotism, and historic preservation.

In an effort to support education, the DAR Good Citizens Award and Scholarship Contest, created in 1934, is intended to encourage and reward the qualities of good citizenship.

This award recognizes and rewards high school seniors who possess the qualities of dependability, service, leadership, and patriotism in their homes, schools, and communities. These students are selected by their teachers and peers because they demonstrate these qualities to an outstanding degree.

  •  This program is only open to students whose schools are accredited and in good standing with their state board of education.

  •  Only one student per year may be honored as a school's DAR Good Citizen.

  •  United States citizenship is not required.

  •  Additional rules and guidelines can be obtained by contacting your local DAR chapter.

Once a student is chosen as their school's DAR Good Citizen, the student is invited to participate in the scholarship portion of the program. This consists of a personal statement and an essay. Student participation in the scholarship portion of the program is optional.

Scholarships are awarded to essay winners at the chapter, state, division and national levels!
